Obituary

Emmanuel George Kyriakides, known to most as Manny, passed away peacefully in Melbourne on 26 January 2026, aged 71.

Born in Australia in 1954, Manny lived a life shaped by family, craft, music, and a long career in the audio-visual industry. He married Panayiota Rafael in 1974, and together they had two children, Stephen and Kathryn. Although their marriage later ended, family remained an important part of his life.

Manny began his career at Douglas Hi-Fi, before moving on to International Dynamics and later Advance Audio, where he remained active until his retirement in 2024. Over several decades, he built strong professional relationships and was widely respected for his technical knowledge, leadership, and steady presence. He held senior roles during his career and was involved in periods of growth within the industry, forming lasting relationships both locally and internationally.

Beyond his formal responsibilities, Manny was known for the time and care he gave to others. He took a genuine interest in mentoring younger colleagues, sharing his knowledge generously and without judgment. Many credit him as a guiding influence in their professional development, and often speak of the practical wisdom he imparted — lessons that continue to resonate well beyond his working years.

In his later years, Manny faced significant health challenges with determination and clarity. He approached his illness with resilience and steady optimism, remaining thoughtful and engaged with those around him, reflecting the same resolve that defined much of his life.

Outside of work, Manny lived a rich and creative life. He was an avid woodworker and accomplished woodturner, and in his younger years was a talented wicket keeper during his time at high school. He loved to cook and to share meals with family and friends. A lifelong music lover, Manny had a particular affection for analogue sound, drawn to its warmth, craftsmanship, and authenticity.

In 2018, Manny married his wife, Linda. In his later years, he was surrounded by family and friends, and welcomed the birth of his grand daughter, Francesca, in 2024.

Manny was predeceased by his parents, George Kyriakidis and Sylvia Sarandis. He is survived by his wife Linda, his children Stephen and Kathryn, his granddaughter Francesca, and many friends and colleagues whose lives he touched.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service. This online memorial is a place for memories, stories, and reflections, so that Manny’s life and legacy may be remembered.

I have fond memories of Manny when he was working for dad, from the time he got promoted to (I think) General Manager or National Sales Manager and took on a new office in Palmer St, to an international trip that he, Rainer Schroeder and dad went on that I tagged along for as a pipsqueak. I had some contact with him in the last few years while he showed compassion for dad during his illness, and he was as lovely and easy going as ever. Keeping him in my thoughts.

Best regards,
Sam Encel

Manny and I go back to the Douglas HiFi days where Ben brought him over to Adelaide to help us open a new store.
From those days to a memorable tour of Japan with Teac and years after, Manny was always a source of knowledge and inspiration.
And his humor was just outright fun and good times.
His memory will stay with me and the many of us who worked alongside of him.
I would have liked to be there at the gathering, to enjoy the company of many mutual friends, but that’s a long haul from Texas.
I was there in spirit.
Rest In Peace Manny Kides. Rest In Peace.

Manny was great to work with as a boss, friend and travelling companion. Always respectful, intelligent and fun to be around. The photo is from an Encel Christmas party at the Mountainview Hotel in Richmond. Probably early nineties? Left to right it is Manny, myself, Peter Holland and Tony Hosking with, (Obscured), Lou Carmeni on drums. I hadn't caught up with Manny often post my time at Encel/Interdyn, but when we did meet we just picked up where we had left off, as MK was always easy to talk to. Gone way too soon.

Manny always had a generosity of spirit that was impossible not to like. We shared a lot of laughs. He was always good company on the road, whether visiting Loewe or taking his beloved Cerwin Vega on the road. He also had a good eye for a new agency. Condolences to his family. He had more to give.

Manny was a great believer in Tivoli Hi-Fi; his advice, guidance and consistent support and friendship have always been valued and much appreciated by all of us at Tivoli.
Over some 40-odd years of sharing ideas and valuable time, his honest, forthright, and strong representation has left me with an everlasting positive impression, so thank you. Manny, Tivoli Hi-Fi and I will miss you. May God bless you and the whole family

Manny was generous to me in my time at Encel/Interdyn/IDA. Believed in my capacity to step up, and that of many others in the organisation. For this I am grateful.
He could perplex at times too, but Manny always took the time to explain his reasoning. He was well respected by suppliers from across the globe, regarded as a knowledgeable and warm person to deal with, and a tough but fair negotiator.
I'd say there are many in the AV industry who would like to thank Manny for the advice and opportunities he provided.
Condolences to Stephen and the rest of the family. Lovely to see the photos of Manny with grandchild.

From memory it was early 1975 when a young Manny came into Douglas Hi FI looking for salesman’s job.
As floor manager I interviewed him.
Manny had some knowledge of audio, but it was his enthusiasm and that at not even 21 years of age was married and wanted that job, recommended him to the G.M. to start.
It wasn’t too long before he was in the top 3 every week and till 1987 still had the record for the biggest retail sale achieved.
His manner with customers, interaction with other staff, and determination to succeed Manny quickly progressed to sales management position and within few years manager of various stores.
At the same time our personal relationship grew closer and still have fond memories of many weekends spending time with our families and children together either at his home in Balwyn or mine.
As his family situation changed and he joined Encel’s our family gatherings w

I dealt with Manny for several years during his tenure as General Manager of Interdyn. From the outset, I found him to be both direct and courteous—someone who provided clear direction and had a strong understanding of branding.

Dealing with Manny gave you a sense of security; you always knew where you stood, and that transparency was refreshing in an industry where it is not always common.
I consistently valued his perspective and respected his insights into the industry, and I am grateful for the time we spent working together.

My last close interaction with Manny was a few years ago when we met for lunch. We had an open and meaningful conversation, and something he said to me at that time left me deeply humbled.

Manny will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, and may God bless them.

Only have positive memories of Manny, Still remember the first time we met... Had just started in the hifi world and a problem with a Dali Catch. Manny made everything so simple and no headache, took ownership and sorted us out with no drama.
To this day, we take the same approach with our customers.
Over the years Manny was a positive influence on so many people,
Will be truly missed, legacy never forgotten.

Of all the people in my career, Manny has been the most influential guiding light in my professional and personal development. Although being in different cities, he always took the time to share his wisdom and knowledge since I started here in my twenties, never once exuding the then-typical response of disdain I would get from some of my seniors. Such was a sign of Manny's character.

I essentially learnt how to run a business from him, and without any hyperbole at all, even to this day I literally hear his voice when I'm doing day to day tasks here. Even to this day I still hear his voice in my head, and his lessons will never be forgotten. Having him as a guiding force gave me a lot of confidence and courage, knowing I had his mentorship behind me.

I am honoured to have shared the twenty-odd years with Manny as friends and colleagues. I will miss him dearly.

We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to visit this page and to share messages, memories, photos and stories about Manny — or Dad, as we knew him.

Reading your words means a great deal to us and allows all of us to remember and reflect on the many parts of his life. It has been comforting to hear from people across different stages of his journey, as a colleague, mentor, friend and someone who clearly left an impression on many.

Many of the stories shared are ones we had never heard before, and they are helping us better understand how far his influence reached and how he was regarded by those around him.

This memorial gives us the opportunity to continue sharing and remembering those important parts of his life, and we hope it becomes a place where others can do the same.

We are grateful for the role each of you played in his life, and for the memories you h
