Obituary

Shaun Thomas Penna, 42, passed away on 13 February 2026 in Springfield.

Born on 16 February 1983 in Brisbane to Jenelle Penna and Joseph Penna, Shaun lived a life driven by intellect, ambition, and an unrelenting desire to build something meaningful. He was, without question, one of the smartest people many of us will ever know — a visionary thinker, an entrepreneur, and a natural collaborator who could see opportunities long before others did.

At the time of his passing, Shaun was the Managing Director of SPENNA, operating within the civil, mining, and construction sectors. Holding a Diploma in Engineering, he combined technical precision with commercial instinct. Business ownership was not simply a career choice; it was how he expressed his independence, leadership, and foresight. He did not just work in industry — he created within it.

Most recently, Shaun relocated to Mission Beach with his partner Caytlyn to embark on a different pace of life — one that still held ambition, but also space to breathe, build, reset, and truly live.

Above everything else, Shaun was a father.

He was a proud and devoted father to William and Olivia. They were the centre of his world — his purpose, his pride, and his greatest commitment. His love for them was fierce and unquestionable.

He was also stepfather to Cooper and Demmi, standing present in their lives with strength and consistency. Alongside his partner, Caytlyn, he was building a future defined by shared ambition and unwavering partnership — a love grounded in strength, respect, and a fierce commitment to the life they were creating together.

Shaun shared William and Olivia with their mother, Tai, whom he held in the highest regard as a strong and devoted mother in raising their children.

He was a brother to Cheryl, Mark, Chris, Tim, Rebecca, Nathan, and Hannah. Like many families, relationships carried their own complexities, but blood and shared history remain part of his story.

Shaun’s passions reflected his spirit. He rode adventure bikes — not for leisure, but for adrenaline. He thrived on challenge, terrain, and intensity. He loved music. He loved fishing. He was drawn to movement, momentum, and experiences that made him feel fully alive.

He was not a simple man, nor a small one. He was driven, intelligent, stubborn at times, visionary in thought, and deeply loyal to those within his circle. He believed in building — businesses, ideas, futures — and in backing the people he chose to stand beside.

Shaun leaves behind his children William and Olivia; their mother, Tai; his stepchildren Cooper and Demmi; his partner Caytlyn; his parents and siblings; and those who knew the strength of his mind and the force of his presence.

His legacy will live on in the ventures he began, the risks he took, the ideas he sparked — and most importantly, in his children.

Shaun did not live quietly.
He thought big.
He built boldly.
He loved fiercely.

And he will not be forgotten

Life Goal Achived: Open Builders Licence

After years of hard work and determination, Shaun achieved his Open Builder’s Licence — a milestone he had long spoken about with pride and purpose. To earn it, he completed his Diploma of Engineering through the University of Southern Queensland and his Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction, all while continuing to work full-time. It was a goal he pursued with focus and belief, and when he reached it, it stood as a powerful reflection of his discipline, ambition and unwavering confidence in his own ability. He couldn't have been prouder, and those who knew his journey shared in his pride, and many took from his example. As was his way, he led from the front to light the path for others.

Shaun,

Loving you was one of the greatest privileges of my life.

What we shared was deep and expansive — built on long conversations, laughter, vision, and that quiet certainty that we had found something rare in each other. The world knew your strength and your drive, but I knew your tenderness too. I knew the man who was playful, present, and completely all in.

We didn’t just fall in love.
We built a life.

Blending our families was one of the most beautiful parts of us. Watching our four incredible children grow together, learn each other, and form their own bonds brought you so much pride. You loved seeing them united. You believed in what our family was becoming.

With you, I felt partnership in its truest form — equal, chosen, supported, inspired. You expanded my life in every way. You believed in building something meaningful — in business, in family, in love — and I

Shaun was my older brother, but in many ways he became far more than that — he was a mentor, a mate, and one of the most influential people in my life.

His guidance, support, and belief in me gave me confidence when I was still finding my way, and he was the one who pushed me to pursue the most life had to offer.

Our relationship was built not just on family, but on shared passions — motorbikes, technology, music, and the many ventures and ideas we chased together. We collected countless stories, laughs, and memories as brothers and as best mates.

Shaun stood beside me on one of the most important days of my life as part of my wedding party, a moment that reflected how central he was to my journey. He was also deeply supportive of my family, taking genuine joy in meeting and watching each of my children grow. They knew him as a fun, loving uncle — colourful language and all —
